Calling All Volunteers!
E ARE ENTERING THE BUSIEST TIME OF YEAR at Big Bend Cares, and there will be many wonderful volunteer opportunities for you to participate in. Let us know what you would be interested in doing so that we can get you set up.
Here is some general information on opportunities that are coming up … more details will be available in the near future.
SEPTEMBER 4TH: COMEDY ZONE BENEFIT FOR BIG BEND CARES
- Tell all of your friends and try to sell tickets
- Tickets are $10 — $5 of each ticket goes to Big Bend Cares
- Event starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time
SEPTEMBER 19TH: DOWNTOWN GETDOWN
- Specific dates TBA (always a Friday night)
- Help man a booth from 6 p.m. — 10 p.m. Eastern time
- You must be 21 as we will be selling beer tickets (proceeds benefit The United Way)
SEPTEMBER 20TH: MACY'S SHOP FOR A CAUSE
- Governor's Square Mall
- There will be two shifts, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
- Selling tickets that serve as a coupon for customers on that day only
- All proceeds from our ticket sales benefit BBC
OCTOBER 12TH: ANNUAL AIDS WALK
- Tom Brown Park
- Volunteers needed to man various tables, help with refreshments, direct traffic, etc.
- Form a team and get sponsors (free T-shirt for each individual who raises $100; must be pre-ordered)
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
- Specific dates TBA (could be a weekday, evening or weekend)
- Cover an information table — discuss HIV/AIDS and upcoming events
DECEMBER 1ST: WORLD AIDS DAY
- Help with covering the front desk during a walk-in testing event at the Big Bend Cares office
- Two shifts: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. & 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
ALTERNATIVE HOLIDAY MARKETS: 1ST & 2ND WEEKEND IN DECEMBER
- Help man a table with information about BBC (similar to a health fair)
- Specific dates TBA
CLIENT HOLIDAY PARTY: USUALLY A MONDAY OR TUESDAY EARLY IN DECEMBER
- Volunteers will be needed to make food, serve and provide transportation
- Held at Trinity United Methodist Church
HOLIDAY ANGELS:
- Volunteers are needed to shop for a child/children
- Help with wrapping and organizing gifts
