Big Bend Cares could not function without its volunteers. People living with HIV/AIDS come from all ethnic, cultural and lifestyle backgrounds; therefore, volunteers are needed from all segments of the community. Listed below are the ways in which you can get involved as a volunteer.
Board of Directors
You can apply to become a member of the Big Bend Cares Board of Directors. Board members must prepare for and attend monthly board meetings, serve on one committee, engage in fund raising for the organization, be a good community representative for the agency, and more. Additional information is available on the Board Application, which is located on the Big Bend Cares Board of Directors Roster.
Providing prevention outreach to the community through health fairs, public speaking, and training, the Education volunteer is able to reach people of all ages and walks of life.
Each year, Big Bend Cares sponsors fund-raising events. Special Events volunteers assist with the planning and implementation of these exciting programs.
Office Support volunteers are able to utilize their organizational and clerical skills to provide much needed assistance with daily operations.
Depending on your level of volunteer participation, you may be required to attend some volunteer training. Training can consist of a one hour orientation, an AIDS 104 class, and a full or half-day training. AIDS 104 will provide you with basic HIV and AIDS information and enable you to begin volunteer service. For more information about becoming a volunteer, please call Kathryn Bachman at 850-656-2437, ext 301, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer Opportunities 2017 – Calling All Volunteers!
Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for the fight against HIV/AIDS! We couldn’t do it without the selfless effort and dedication you all provide for Big Bend Cares. We want you to know that your generosity and donation of time does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated. Below you will find a list of our volunteer opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Kathryn Bachman at (850) 656-2437 ext 301 or email at email@example.com. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our Volunteer Program for the year 2017!
Front Desk/Reception and Back-up Coverage
Big Bend Cares provides the unique opportunity for volunteers to run the front desk. Persons who run the front desk are trained to greet clients, answer/direct phone calls, send faxes, etc. This position requires volunteer training and commitment to the same shift each week. Shifts are Monday-Friday 8:30am-12:30pm/12:30pm-5:00pm. We also see volunteers for Back-Up Coverage – individuals who can cover front desk without advance notice (very helpful!).
Second Harvest Food Friday Giveaway:
On the fourth Friday of each month, we give deli, bakery, meat, fruit, and vegetable items from Second Harvest to community members. This event takes place at our office, located at 2201 S Monroe St., from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Around 10-15 volunteers are needed to sort through the food, and then to help give it out.
